Aelod cyswllt o dîm Siop iard yw Elin Mair, wedi ei lleoli ym Mhwllheli. Mae hi hefyd yn stocio'r siop yng Nhaernarfon.

Sefydlodd ei busnes nôl yn 2011, mae hi’n creu gemwaith a chofroddion cyfoes a cofiadwy.
Mae ei gwaith yn awr yn cael ei werthu mewn siopau ac orielau annibynnol ar draws Prydain.

Mae hi'n gweithio gyda deunydd diddorol iawn; Precious Metal Clay (PMC).  Mae’r clai yn gyfuniad o rhwymwyr organig, dŵr a gronynnau microsgopig o arian sydd wedi eu hailgylchu.

Ffurfir y clai i’r siâp delfrydol, cyn ychwanegu gwaead i greu dyfnder a tlysni i’r gwaith.  Mae’r clai yn cael ei sychu’n drwyadl, yna ei sandio yn llyfn cyn ei danio mewn odyn ar dymheredd uchel iawn.  Mae’r broses yma yn llosgi’r rhwymwr a’r dŵr ac yn ffiwsio’r metel i ffurf solet.  Gall yr holl waith soldro ddechrau wedyn, ble mae’r darnau yn cael eu trawsnewid i gynlluniau gwisgadwy.

Mae gweithio gyda PMC yn wahanol i’r ffordd draddodiadol o ofannu arian, gan ei fod yn gofyn am set wahanol o sgiliau, rhai sy'n manteisio ar sgiliau crochenwyr a cherflunwyr.

Elin Mair is an associate member of the Siop iard team based at the Pwllheli Shop. She also stocks the Caernarfon shop.

Established since 2011, she creates contemporary jewellery and memorable keepsakes.  Her work is now sold in selected independent shops and galleries across Britain.

She works with a fascinating material; Precious Metal Clay (PMC), also known as Silver Clay. PMC is a combination of organic binders, water and microscopic recycled particles of silver.

The clay is hand-formed into a shape and the desired texture added, before being dried, sanded and then fired in a kiln. The firing process removes the binder and fuses the metal into a solid form.   Post-firing, all the soldering work can begin, where the pieces are transformed into wearable designs.

Working with PMC is quite different from traditional silversmithing as it requires a different set of skills, ones that tap into those of potters and sculptors, and is ultimately more environmentally friendly.
